Beautiful Soul,

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from never truly knowing where you stand in someone’s heart.

When love was present one moment and withdrawn the next…

When care came only when you were pleasing, performing or becoming what someone needed you to be…

When words said one thing, but the energy beneath them told you something entirely different…

You learnt to guess.

To watch.

To listen for the smallest change in tone.

To read the room before you dared to inhabit it.

To search someone’s face for the truth they were not speaking.

And slowly, the guessing tore you apart within.

Because when true love and care were missing, or offered so inconsistently that you could never rest inside them... you didn’t only stop trusting the people around you.

You stopped trusting care itself.

When Love Could Not Be Trusted

Perhaps you were loved when you were happy, helpful or easy to be around…

But left alone when your feelings became inconvenient.

Perhaps care was given freely one day and taken away the next.

Perhaps affection was used as a reward.

Perhaps vulnerability was met with indifference, dismissal, manipulation or silence.

Or perhaps the people around you genuinely loved you, but simply did not possess the emotional capacity to meet you where you were.

A young heart cannot understand that.

It does not think:

They are unable to give me what I need.

It feels:

There must be something about me that cannot be loved.

My needs are too much.

Care never lasts.

If I allow myself to receive it, it will only hurt more when it disappears.

And so, without consciously choosing it, you may have calibrated yourself to the absence of care.

You became accustomed to carrying yourself.

You learnt to put your needs last.

You stopped expecting to be held.

And somewhere deep inside, you may even have decided:

If I cannot have the real thing, I would rather have nothing at all.

The Hidden Exhaustion Of Guessing

When you cannot trust another person’s heart, connection never feels restful.

Even in the presence of love, part of you remains vigilant.

Do they really mean it?

Will they still be here tomorrow?

What do they want from me?

When will this change?

What do I need to do to keep their love?

You may overgive, overexplain or work incredibly hard to maintain closeness.

Or you may withdraw before anyone has the chance to leave.

You may long desperately for true connection while simultaneously closing your heart against it.

Not because you do not want love…

But because receiving love once became inseparable from the fear of losing it.

And the body remembers.

It remembers the moments goodness was followed by pain.

It remembers the care that came in small bursts, but never as a consistent presence.

It remembers being given something beautiful and then having it taken away.

So even when genuine love arrives, your system may not immediately recognise it as safe.

Your Needs Never Disappeared

But Beautiful Soul…

Your needs did not disappear simply because someone could not meet them.

Your need for tenderness was not weakness.

Your desire for truth was not too much.

Your longing to be held, understood and met was never something you should have had to outgrow.

You were always worthy of care that did not need to be earned.

Love that did not require a performance.

Connection that did not leave you endlessly questioning what was real.

You did not fail because you needed more.

You adapted because you received less than your heart and body required.

And perhaps this is where something new can begin.

Not by forcing yourself to trust everyone.

Not by overriding the wisdom born from everything you have experienced.

And not by pretending that every person is capable of meeting you with truth.

But by slowly allowing yourself to discover that the absence of care in your past does not mean care itself is absent from life.

Learning To Receive Again

True care may not initially feel dramatic.

It may feel unfamiliar.

Quiet.

Steady.

It may be the person whose words and energy continue to agree.

The one who does not disappear when you have a need.

The one who does not punish you for your truth.

The one whose kindness is not a transaction.

But it may also be the ground beneath your feet.

The morning sun warming your skin.

The breath returning to your body without needing to be earned.

The food that nourishes you.

The animal who curls up beside you.

The tree that receives everything you bring and asks you to become nothing else.

Care is not always absent simply because it did not arrive through the people from whom you needed it most.

Life may have been reaching for you in a thousand different ways…

While the wounded heart was still looking towards the closed door, waiting for someone who did not know how to open it.

And slowly, tenderly, you can turn towards what is here.

You can begin receiving the care that does not disappear when you stop performing.

You can become present to the love that has never asked you to betray yourself in order to belong.

You can let your own heart become one of the places where you are finally safe to land.

When true love and care were missing,
you learnt not to trust another heart.
You had to survive through endless guessing…
And slowly, it tore you apart.

That split became the only home you knew,
a way of avoiding the pain.
Trying to fix it again and again…
only estranged you further from your core.

You searched for the truth in their eyes,
felt every withdrawal and change…
Never knowing if love would remain there,
or betray your open heart again.

So you learnt to question each kindness,
to mistrust what another might give…
For how could you rest in their loving,
when guessing was how you had lived?

But the care they were unable to offer
was never a measure of you.
Their hearts may not have known how to hold you…
But that never made you less worthy or true.

And now, life is gently revealing
what the wounded heart could not see:
Love was never the thing that betrayed you…
It was love’s absence that taught you to flee.

You don’t have to trust without knowing,
or silence the wisdom you gained.
You can listen for love that is steady…
For care that does not disappear or cause pain.

And slowly, your heart can remember
it no longer needs to defend.
That true care asks nothing but your presence…
And love can remain until the end.

Perhaps healing is not trusting blindly,
or denying what you have lived through…
It is learning to rest in the heart of life,
and letting its love care for you.

Perhaps healing is not the moment you promise yourself that nobody will ever hurt you again.

Perhaps it is the moment you realise that you no longer have to abandon yourself when they do.

The moment you stop begging closed hearts to prove that love exists…

And begin allowing the open heart of life to find you.

You are still worthy of being cared for.

You are still worthy of being held.

And beneath every protection you once needed, there is still a heart within you that remembers how to receive.

This Is More Than Something I Wanted To Write About

This is not only something I wanted to put into words.

It is something I feel deeply called to create a healing space around.

Because when love and care could not be trusted, understanding the wound is rarely enough.

The body needs a new experience.

The heart needs to discover that it can remain open without abandoning itself.

And the parts that have spent a lifetime watching, questioning, protecting and preparing for disappointment need to experience the presence of a love that does not disappear.
