The Moment You Let Go Is the Moment You Get to Keep It
Beautiful Soul,
How are you in this beautiful moment...?
When you take a nice centring breath...
How present do you feel?
Just in this moment...?
What is or has been holding on to you?
What is or has been held tight within...?
What if this isn't wrong...
but another beautiful doorway to a part of you that simply doesn't know otherwise...?
There are things we consciously know... we should or need to let go of....
People...?
Relationships...?
Old versions of ourselves...?
Expectations?
Habits?
Fears... and worries....?
Perhaps an addiction...
A way of coping...
Something you keep doing even though another part of you desperately wants to stop.
The need to control.
To please.
To prove.
To keep checking.
To keep reaching.
To keep waiting.
To keep going back.
And so easily, even our desire to LET GO becomes another fight.
Another problem to solve.
Another version of ourselves we need to overcome.
Another mountain to climb.
I shouldn't still be doing this.
I should be over this by now.
I know this isn't good for me.
Why can't I just stop?
Why can't I let them go?
Why am I still afraid?
Why am I still holding onto this?
And before we know it...
we are using our willpower to fight the very thing that may have come to show us where we need our love the most.
Because what if the habit isn't actually the problem?
What if the fear isn't the problem?
What if the attachment isn't the problem?
What if the relationship you cannot seem to release isn't even where the deepest holding lives?
What if these are simply the places where something deeper within you has become visible?
What If It Is a Doorway?
We so often try to change what we can see.
Stop the behaviour.
Break the habit.
Leave the relationship.
Release the fear.
Quiet the thoughts.
Become less reactive.
Stop needing.
Stop wanting.
Stop holding on.
But what if the thing you are trying so hard to let go of has been doing something for you?
What if the addiction has been soothing something that didn't know how else to be soothed?
What if the control has been creating a sense of safety where safety once felt impossible?
What if the pleasing learnt that being loved meant becoming what somebody else needed?
What if the overthinking has been trying to anticipate what could go wrong so you never have to be caught unprepared again?
What if the armour around your heart isn't there because you don't know how to love...
but because you know exactly how deeply you can love?
What if holding onto someone is connected to a place within you that still believes their choosing you would finally mean...
I am worthy.
I am lovable.
I mattered.
I wasn't abandoned.
What if the striving isn't really about success...
but about a part of you that learnt somewhere along the way:
If I do enough... perhaps I will finally be enough.
And what if the identity you cannot seem to release isn't stubbornness at all...
but the version of you who learnt how to survive?
Suddenly...
there is nothing to fight.
There is something to meet.
Because underneath what we call a problem...
there may be an incredibly intelligent reason it became necessary in the first place.
And perhaps the question changes from:
How do I let this go?
to...
Why am I holding on?
Or perhaps even more tenderly...
What does this allow me not to feel... not to face... or not to lose?
What is it protecting?
What does it believe it gives me?
What does some part of me fear would happen if it were suddenly gone?
Because perhaps you have been trying to remove the answer...
before you have heard the question.
When Holding On Once Kept You Safe
There is so much intelligence in what we do.
Even in the things we desperately want to change.
The resentment may have reminded you never to allow someone to hurt you like that again.
The hypervigilance may have helped you notice what nobody else was noticing.
The armour may have protected a heart that had already been broken too many times.
The control may have created some sense of safety when life felt anything but safe.
The striving may have helped you belong.
The pleasing may have helped you receive love.
The numbness may have given you somewhere to go when feeling everything was simply too much.
The identity you created may have carried you through something you didn't yet know how to meet any other way.
And when we understand that...
letting go begins to mean something entirely different.
Because we are no longer standing over ourselves saying:
Come on.
Stop.
Change.
Get over it.
Let it go.
We get to come closer.
We get to become curious.
We get to discover who within us is still holding on... and why.
And this is where I feel we so often miss the doorway.
Because sometimes we are not holding on because we still want the thing.
We are holding on because some part of us doesn't yet know who we are without it.
If I am no longer the one who has to be strong...
Who am I?
If I stop proving myself...
Who am I?
If I no longer need everybody else to be okay before I can be okay...
Who am I?
If I stop waiting for someone to finally choose me...
Who am I?
If I am no longer the person who was abandoned, betrayed, rejected, overlooked or hurt...
Who am I?
If I don't have to fight my way through life anymore...
Who am I then?
And maybe even...
If I actually receive the life I have been asking for...
who will I have to allow myself to be?

You Don't Have to Carry the Wound to Keep the Wisdom
This is where something beautiful can begin to happen.
Because perhaps letting go isn't something you do at all.
Perhaps letting go is what naturally begins to happen when the part that has been holding on discovers...
I don't need this anymore.
Not because you forced it away.
Not because you conquered it.
Not because you became disciplined enough.
Not because you finally managed to become the version of yourself who doesn't have this problem.
But because whatever was underneath it...
has finally been seen.
Felt.
Heard.
Met.
Loved.
And no longer needs the same protection...
Then perhaps the fingers begin to loosen all by themselves.
And this matters...
because releasing something does not mean losing everything that came with it.
You can let go of the relationship...
and keep the love that opened inside you.
You can let go of the person...
and keep everything you discovered about yourself through loving them.
You can let go of the dream...
and keep the truth underneath what you were really longing for.
You can let go of the armour...
and keep the discernment it taught you.
You can let go of the identity that survived...
and keep every ounce of strength, wisdom and beauty it gathered along the way.
You don't have to carry the wound to keep the wisdom.
You don't have to keep hurting to prove that it mattered.
You don't have to remain angry to honour what happened.
You don't have to keep the wall to remember how precious your heart is.
You don't have to keep struggling to honour the one who struggled so hard to bring you here.
And maybe...
you get to discover that you never lose anything anyway...
What If Letting Go Isn't About Losing?
It is releasing the grip...
The demand that the past should have been different.
The demand that somebody should finally become who you needed them to be.
The demand that you must become someone else before you can finally be free.
The demand that an old version of you continue to exist simply because she once kept you safe.
Because underneath every role...
every protection...
every story...
every identity you have ever worn...
you are still here.
Before the armour.
Before the proving.
Before the pleasing.
Before the fear.
Before you learnt how to become whatever you needed to become to survive, belong, be loved or stay safe...
you were already here.
You have never disappeared.
And perhaps that is why true letting go cannot be forced.
Because it doesn't come from: I need to get rid of this.
It comes from somewhere much deeper.
I trust myself without it.
I trust myself without the armour.
I trust myself without knowing what comes next.
I trust myself without needing them to understand.
I trust myself without the identity that brought me here.
I trust myself without needing the past to change.
I trust myself enough to allow what was...
to have been.
And I trust myself enough to be here...
now.
Maybe the love was always yours.
Maybe the strength was always yours.
Maybe the wisdom was always yours.
Maybe the safety you have spent your whole life searching for is becoming something you can finally recognise within yourself.
Maybe the part of you you thought would disappear if you let go... is the part of you that is finally being set free.
And perhaps this is the beautiful paradox of letting go.
You release the form... and discover the essence was never going anywhere.
You release who you had to be... and meet who you have always been.
You loosen your grip on what was... and suddenly your hands are open enough to receive what is here.
So perhaps today...
don't focus so much on what you need to let go of.
Ask...
What is this showing me?
What is underneath my holding?
What has this been doing for me?
What am I afraid I will lose without it?
And perhaps most beautifully...
Who am I when I no longer need this to be who I am?
Because maybe letting go was never about losing anything at all.
Maybe it is discovering that what is truly yours...
doesn't require you to hold on so tightly.
And maybe...
the moment you let go
is the moment you discover
what was already yours and unconditionally yours to keep all along.
With all my love 💛
